Named after a geographical region is southwestern Wisconsin, the Driftless area was unaffected by the glacial drift that flattened much of the surrounding landscape. The steep, bluff-covered valleys represent the ancient landscape of the Midwest, with sedimentary rocks dating back to the Paleozoic area.
